The Division of Early Warning and Assessment (DEWA)

The Division of Early Warning and Assessment (DEWA) provides environmental data and information, and helps increase the capacity of governments to use environmental information for decision-making and planning for sustainable human development.

The Asia and the Pacific regional programme of DEWA is implemented through the UNEP Regional Resource Centre for Asia and Pacific (RRC.AP) , Thailand. It supports global and sub-global? assessments and undertakes capacity building for integrated environmental assessment including data and information management at city, national, sub-regional and regional levels through?:

  • Provision of scientifically credible and policy relevant information;
  • Integrated environmental assessment: focusing on capacity building and technology transfer;
  • Data management and indicators development;
  • Early warning of emerging threats: timely identification and vulnerability assessment of emerging environmental threats
