The 3rd Annual Tunza – Northeast Asia Youth Environment Network Conference
18-21 September 2007
Tokyo, Japan

More than 50 young people from China, Japan, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea will participate in the 3rd annual Tunza – Northeast Asia Youth Environment Network (NEAYEN) Conference. Led by UNEP Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and sponsored by Bayer, the youth conference will be convened by the UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea, the Japanese Youth Eco League, and Chiba University.

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Climate Change and Sustainable Consumption,’ linking climate change and impacts of unsustainable consumption. Youth are important channels to encourage their family, friends and communities to live in a more sustainable way. By providing these youths their own unique forum for networking on future partnerships, the NEAYEN conference enables youth from this subregion to come together for creative action on this global issue.

Youth participants will hear from experts from UNEP, United Nations University (UNU), government representatives and non-governmental organization. Information about the environmental situation in each of the four countries will be shared with participants and students from the host Chiba University. Action on climate change in Northeast Asia will be formulated by participating youths, as part of the NEAYEN work plan in 2008. The conference also includes a cultural exchange programme and presentations from the youth on their environmental activities.
